Dinner and Dancing???

Jeff was so excited when I got home tonight. He was just like a teenage boy. He had bought me a beautiful pink rose corsage. Before I hardly got out of the car he had it in his hand and was so proud to give it to me as a token of his love. It was so sweet.

We were the best dressed couple at the dinner dance. I was the only one with a corsage....which the bishop told Jeff that he would be talking to him at Bishopric meeting on Sunday because he knows how to treat a woman!!! He needs to give some lessons to the other brethren.

I love this picture. We had such a good time. Dancing the night away. Then we came home a watched a movie. It was a perfect evening. :)

Jeff got two new suits. He is in his new suit, shirt and tie. I must say he was the most handsome of all the men there. And he just made me smile all night.

Well, I am back into my decorating for the holiday mode. So I decorated last Sunday. Pink flowers, and a fun LOVE Banner!! I wanted a picture to show it all off. I love this picture with the love between us.

Part III of the Bedroom Sequel

We moved in some night stands, one was out in the shed and the other one was is grandpa's garage. The handles match but the styles are a little different which is perfect for an island look. The Hope Chest was made by my dad's friend Clyde Shrode along time ago. It has special quilts and hand made items in it from different family members.

We were happy to have the clothes hung back up in the closet. It is another time to sort through stuff again... so lots of clothes and shoes were donated to those who may need them. It feels wonderful to have a place for everything and everything in its place.

Here is a close up of our new blinds. We love our blinds, they not only room darken, but they have a filtering feature which is nice for the day time so that just enough light is let into the room, yet it still cuts out on the heat. Notice our established sign... thanks Jeff and Star!! And of course our little Ming Ming the duck who was born in late December after my surgery. She loves to ride her John Deere tractor around the bed during the day!! We love you Ming Ming you make us laugh everyday.

I love this picture because it gives you a view of several angles of the room. My bromide is doing really well. The flower has faded now but it has put out a pup, which will be the next plant to flower... stay tuned to see if I can get it to bloom again.

Sequel to TAH DAH!!!

Before we went to Hawaii to see Cara we were working frantically to get our closet done and to find the perfect bed set for our bed. Its arrival was eminent! We went to Bed Bath and Beyond to look for the perfect bed set and wouldn't you know that it was on the clearance rack??? Paying your tithing is such a blessing! Well anyway, Jeff found it and we looked at it for awhile and I said, "You know I think that this might just work!" It had all of our colors and it was very pretty.
We even saved another 20% which is quite significant if you have priced sets like this lately, because if you receive one of their 20% off coupons you can use them after the fact. So I have actually used a couple of them on the items that we had bought over the past couple of months. Thank you Heavenly Father it is a beautiful gift!! We love our bed, it is very comfy!!

This is the finished closet. Bob our Builder!!! Yes, he is Bob the Builder, did a wonderful job making what I had designed for the closet. Our closet is deep and therefore it really is a walk in closet!!! Ha Ha!! We love the space and he even put hooks on the inside door so that Jeff can hang up his ties and hats. It is a very good use of space.

One thing that Bob did was build the dresser in the closet for me. He made it so that the drawers pull all the way out and I can see everything in my drawers. It is very helpful.

Bob had two helpers who were very good at what they did too. You can also see the canned lights in this picture. I just love my closet!!

I asked Bob if he would pose for my grandsons, so that they would know that Bob the Builder was at grandma's house and that he built grandma's closet!! Thanks Bob!!

TA-DAH!!!

Well here it is! The room is finished as far as the painted walls, crown molding, new plugs, and fan. The paint color is Lazy Caterpillar on the walls, crown molding, December Snow, and the ceiling is eggshell. The walls are textured with a plaster look that give them character. The wall is not smooth but has some gaps in the plaster. The paint is a semi gloss which also gives the room a lot of light. It is very pretty and we are very pleased with our contractor, Bob!!! You go Bob and his two helpers!! He said he would be done in 6 to 7 days and he was done in 6. Now I have to draw up the plans for the closet organizer , then after the carpet is laid on Friday, he will come back to put the organizer in.

Here is the carpet swatch. It looks like it is already installed. I love the look, it is called Garden Island. Looks great! I can't wait to see the finished product. It is a Berber and it is tightly woven. I wanted this so that it doesn't have a lot of stuff to float around the room. I am trying to keep this room really dust free. Good luck here though!!

Ya gotta love the ceiling fan!! Very tropical too!! This is the beginning of our island paradise. :)

Whats Going On???

The newest adventure at the Wiley house is a bedroom make over. We moved into our house in August of 1984. So our bedroom has still had the decor of the 1980's. Wall paper, venetian blinds, and a water bed frame that has not used a water bed for approximately 15 years. We had several water bed mattresses. I remember getting one with baffles that was to reduce the movement when one of us would move in the night. Eventually the baffles came apart and it was like we were sleeping on small whales as they would congregate in part of the bed. I have to say that we had many good times in that bed with our children. Some of our fondest memories are of the children all piled in the bed with us. I even remember a time when even some of the grandchildren joined in on the bed.
After that we went to a Simmons air system, similar to a sleep number bed. That system has lasted us for approximately 10 years, but then Jeff's side of the bed began to leak. It was really sad that he had to pump up his side of the bed every night before we went to sleep. So we went mattress shopping. Little did we know that this was the beginning of a huge project. We bought a tempur- pedic bed. It has all types of bells and whistles that we will use in our old age. The head and feet adjust up and down and it will give you a massage for about 20 minutes. Now we didn't do this lightly, it was like buying a car. It took about three hours to buy this bed. Of course it was quite an investment in our future sleeping pleasure, so we were making sure that we were very comfortable in the bed. After all we do spend a third of our time in bed.
After the bed was disassembled on Saturday, I was very sad. It was an end of an era and I was feeling it. It is currently on the floor of the garage waiting for someone to love it like we do. Craig's List here it comes!!
So I am going to show you some after and one before pictures so you can see what we have been up too. Unfortunately, Jeff and I both got sick when we began cleaning this room out. I am sure that our sickness was complicated by the dust rabbits that were running around the room!!!!

Well here is the room emptied out. You can see a cord hanging down that our son put in years ago to wire the house. Now everything is wireless. My how time flies and technology changes!!

This is what we began with, this is my side of the bedroom. I took the time to go through each drawer, container, box etc. I got rid of a lot of stuff. Our recycle barrel was very full. We have at least 5 boxes to go to Salvation Army. And more to come...as we continue to get rid of stuff!!!
We look forward to a new room which will be our sanctuary.

An Apple a Day....

Today was a wonderful day for a trip to Oak Glen. Daddy and I started out about 9:30 this morning and drove up to Oak Glen going through Mentone. Jeff was still coughing a lot so he really didn't want to be out. We began our journey stopping at Mom's Apple Place which is the old place where they always had all of the antiques in the front part of the store. We also ate our first Gala Apple there. Then on to Snowline where the famous Huell Howser ate apple doughnuts. Yum Yum!!! We bought two dozen. They aren't very big, so even eating two isn't much. We also collected some beautiful fall leaves and watched a blue jay eat peanuts. Next stop, Los Rios apple orchard, . We finally found some apples there that were at least a little bit better priced and larger in size Plus, they had a guy with a pot on his head, cutting apples for us to taste test. Johnny Appleseed???? Nice Hat I said!! We had Golden Delicious, Muji, and Pink Lady. At another orchard we also tried a new variety called Black Amber..I think! So many names to remember. So after Los Rios it was time for lunch. Where should we go??? Apple Pie with vanilla ice cream??? A &W root beer????? Oh, this is an apple day, so shouldn't we have Apple Pie!!!! So back to the village we went. It was a nice day to sit out on the patio and eat our pie and ice cream. Then down to the fudge store. 12.99 a pound. The new flavor this year was apple pie fudge. Hummm...I wonder if I can recreate that one????After lunch we went back on our journey down the hill and ended up in Cherry Valley. We called cousin Janet earlier in the day and told her we would like to come by to see her new place. So she had called me back and said come on over. So up highway 38 we went again as we had just made this giant circle. She has a nice place. Three bedrooms and two bath. The trailer is double wide and there is a pool. It is really close to the turn off for Oak Glen.Daddy and I had a great day. My only regret was that I forgot my camera so the pictures I took were with my phone, but they really aren't too bad. So I hope that this was a trip down memory lane for my children.

What the Heck????

In June we filed a claim with the city about our sidewalk and planter boxes that were being raised by the roots of the tree in our front park way. Right about the time that we came home from Hawaii, I received a call that the city had OK'd our claim and that they were going to tear out 34 feet of sidewalk and three of my planter boxes around our roses. When they began digging they found these monster roots underneath the sidewalk area and going under the roses. As you can see in the pictures they were huge!!! Now we have a lovely new sidewalk and planter box. When this work was being done, I noticed cracks in the driveway. Guess what??? More roots?? back to the city with another claim. So on Sep 3oth we are going to have a two thirds of our driveway replaced. Crazy huh!! I think they are going to take the tree out. It has been a pretty expensive tree to keep. Even though the city really doesn't want to remove it. I feel sorry for the tree, because all of those big roots that you see were cut from the tree. It really is a wonder that it is still standing. A special thank you to our city and Stillwell Construction Company for all of their excellent work!!! I haven't taken a now picture. I will do that tomorrow and post it. :)
